It's time to get to work to redistribute wealth

It's time to get to work to redistribute wealth

PSOE and Unidos Podemos have two months ahead, a second chance that should not be missed

We live these days under the effect of the failure of the investiture plenary session in which the opportunity to form a leftist government has been lost due to a lack of agreement between the PSOE and United We Can. The hopes of many of the millions of people who moved on April 28 to stop a Casado government with the participation of VOX have been thwarted. It is not only that a progressive government has not been formed, an issue that we already lived in 2015 and 2016 but that a “blow” has been given to the social mobilization that on the 28th stopped the “Bannon boys” in Spain . This is a responsibility that Messrs. Sánchez and Iglesias must keep in mind. Some analysts talk about the distrust created between PSOE and United We can, but what we have to talk about first is the damage done to the popular sectors after the full one we have witnessed.

In the investiture debate there are plenty of differences and reproaches and there has been a lack of talk about big issues in which there may be unity, in which PSOE and United We can and should join. There has been a lack of talk about the disease and the patients and there is plenty of talk about the problems that "doctors" have. In my view, the great disease we have is clear: an unfair redistribution of wealth and we suffer from patients in the form of cuts, cuts in pensions, salaries, employment, social rights, freedoms ... Spain is the fourth richest country of the European Union and the fourth in social inequality. The facts certify it stubbornly on a daily basis: every time we generate more wealth but it does not revert in society as a whole, only in high incomes. Redistribute wealth, this is the question ... and this is why you have to get to work now!

Wealth…and Poverty: The one is the parent of luxury and indolence, and the other of meanness and vicious-ness, and both discontent. - Plato

These days, while we were looking at the outcome of the investiture some headlines did not place in the concrete reality of our country: While Ana Patricia Botín has made public the benefits of Santander showing that they are the best of the last eight years, It has also announced a 6'9% increase in the price of housing in the last quarter. I do not know that Santander's profits or the price of housing is rising faster, but it is a clear expression of how the transfer of wealth goes in our country: from the pockets of the workers to the big bank.

It is essential to look at the negotiations and put it into the specific problems that the country and people have. It is essential to get to work for:

Defend the public pension system, an issue that affects 90% of the population and the need to protect it constitutionally against the constant threats of large investment funds.

It is necessary to create an employment fund to rebuild the productive model of our country. It is essential because Spain is currently one of the countries with the highest unemployment rate in the EU and the second in youth unemployment.

A plan to lower the price of housing that is becoming the main cause of impoverishment of the inhabitants of the big cities is urgently needed, last year was the year with more evictions in the history of Spain, a very painful event that has spent quite unnoticed. And at the same time, a productive development plan is essential for our empty towns, the empty Spain that was talked about so much in the campaign and that today is forgotten.

We must expand freedoms and curb any regression. And it is especially important to agree to end gender violence with adequate laws and with sufficient resources, the news about the murders of women in recent weeks are chilling.

From the left it is essential to defend a project of unity of the people of the nationalities and regions of Spain, of diverse and plural unity, because cultural differences, of language ... enrich us, do not divide us. Those who divide and face us are those who are interested in increasing their degree of domination and looting over us. It is time not to let the "Married or the Abascal" appropriate the flag of the unit.

PSOE and United We can now have two months ahead, they have a second chance that they should not miss, as some parliamentarians like Joan Baldoví have said correctly. They should not save efforts, meetings or mediations ...
