The election for the new mayoral of Toronto, will take place in the coming days, and the actors who will sit at the city council chambers are trying to convince the public they are going to take care and fix the cracks which are affecting the wellbeing of vulnerable groups. These false preachers are bringing to the electors their filthy tricks used in the times of electoral campaign; As also these demagogues are proving that they are no more than represented opportunists in defense of their perpetuation for power and their extravagant salaries.
From the National Post John Tory pledges immediate repairs at Toronto’s crumbling social housing, calling it the ‘moral’ thing to do
Colin O'Connor for National Post John Tory at a debate on Sunday. On Friday, Mr. Tory vowed to address a massive repair backlog at Toronto community housing.
John
Tory gathered the press to the Paintbox Bistro in Regent Park Friday
morning to say that he will take action to repair the vast, crumbling
empire of social housing that belongs to the city of Toronto.
“I do not think that it is acceptable to say that we are going to wait to make these repairs,” Mr. Tory told reporters. “I think it is a moral and a preferable option to go ahead with these repairs.”
Mr. Tory said he would move right away to invest $864-million, which he called Toronto’s “funded” 1/3 share of the cost of fixing Toronto Community Housing buildings. He also promised to set up a task force including city councillors, tenants and housing experts “to review and recommend changes to the corporate structure of TCHC.”
Mr. Tory said the city has already budgeted the $864-million for TCHC needs, but has failed to spend it because it wants Ontario and Ottawa to pay, as well.
Senator Art Eggleton, a former mayor of Toronto, joined Mr. Tory at the event and said, “We need a national housing strategy.”
Mr. Eggleton said he is doing his bit to bring more federal cash to help the poorly-housed in Toronto through the All-Party Anti-Poverty Caucus.
