The Latin American right corrodes

The Latin American right corrodes

By Emir Sader: The euphoric return of the right to Latin American governments produced the spectacular defeat of Mauricio Macri, the state of emergency of Lenín Moreno in Ecuador to try to contain popular anger against his neoliberal package and the projection of Bolsonaro as the most ridiculous and grotesque head of state in the world. Those were the characters that were supposed to clean up public finances, recover the international prestige of our countries, end corruption, overcome populist governments and achieve stability, development and social welfare.

It has been a few years, not many months, for the heroic characters of the neoliberal restoration to be ridiculed characters - Macri, Lenín Moreno, Bolsonaro. Who gives something for them? Who believes that Macri will turn the Argentine elections? Who believes that Moreno is going to get free from the current Ecuadorian crisis? Who believes that Bolsonaro is the future of Brazil?

The right came to power in countries that had grown again, had reduced inequality and had good cooperative relationships with their neighbors. Countries that achieved political stability, peaceful and democratic coexistence between political, social and cultural forces, with a State that guarantees the rights of all.

Just look at the situation of countries such as Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador, devoted to the recession, unemployment, misery, loss of support and legitimacy of their governments. The right has made all its efforts, legal and illegal, to curb leftist governments and return to the presidency of those countries.

What was Ecuador of Rafael Correa and what has become in the hands of someone chosen based on his success, then betray everything for which he was chosen, do what the right raised and throw the country on the edge of chaos, with military occupation of the streets of Ecuador!

What was Brazil of Lula, a respected country worldwide, with a president who has left his mandate with 80 percent of negative references in the media, but with 87 percent of support from the population. Brazil grew and distributed income, leaving the Hunger Map. And what is in the hands of a president that nobody respects, who has thrown the country into misery and rampant violence.

Néstor and Cristina rescued Argentina from the worst crisis in its history, getting the country to develop again and generate jobs. They managed to overcome the indebtedness with the IMF and that the country be respected again in the world. In comparison with the country that Macri is not ashamed to give back to the democratic forces, a country that has been three years of stagflation, with the people suffering misery and hunger.

But there is a logic in the madness of what the right does in those countries and wants to do in others. Its role is, first and foremost, to seek to remove legitimacy and popular support from the most important popular leaderships that these countries have had. These leaders have been transformed into the main enemies of local oligarchies and American politics, because with their policies they have conquered the trust of their peoples and international prestige, privileging the processes of regional integration and not the free trade agreements with the United States. .UU.

Second, they sought to replace economic policies that have favored the development of the internal market with the return of fiscal adjustment policies, which promote the interests of financial capital. They return to the neoliberal model, in force in world capitalism, although it has led the great powers to a deep and prolonged recession. To take out the antineoliberal model is to end with an example of alternative economic policy, which proves that there is not a single path, such as the Washington Consensus and the single thought try to impose.

The Latin American right has resumed the governments of countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, and has shown that they have learned nothing from their previous failure and the success of progressive governments. They fail again, they fail more, they are and they will be defeated again.
