Telesur: Denounce human rights violations
against children in Chile
In Chile,
the child protection agency reported that the Chilean Government does not take
action against violations of the human rights of minors in the Sename Centers.
Child
protection agencies protested against the Merones National Service (Sename) in
Chile to denounce what they consider to be a systematic violation of their
human rights.
The Sename
is a state center charged with giving children opportunities that their
families of origin denied or failed to give them, which makes them vulnerable.
Sename's
spokesman in support of children, Miguel Iglesias, urged the Chilean government
to apologize and recognize internationally that it violated the human rights of
minors.
In 2016 a
minor of seven years was assassinated in the seat of the Sename, after being
crushed and asphyxiated by one of its custodies like method of punishment.
The
president of the National Association of Fiscal Employees, Jorge Insunza,
pointed out that the most serious deaths of children have been recorded in the
collaborating institutions of Sename, which makes it a complete
"failure".
He added
that despite the actions that Chile has taken on the aggressions, they have not
been adjusted. In 2016 the State granted $ 245 million in state payments.
For her
part, the spokeswoman of the National Network for Influence, Cecilia De
Setafino, added that a complete reparation is necessary in the country, in the
area of protection of minors, to have a happier life and to be socially
integrated .
Chile
since 2006 has registered at least 1,313 children killed in the Sename centers
or in private collaborating agencies and according to the Institute of Human
Rights almost half of them have suffered abuse or abuse of all kinds.
