The bill is expected to be passed by a parliamentary majority. It would expand the powers of the country's spy agency. It would also allow anyone suspected of being involved in a terror plot to be held for up to a week without any charge. Work on the bill began in October after an assailant killed a soldier and then stormed the parliament. Critics including the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association believe the proposed law is misguided and wouldn't make Canadians any safer.
